The Selati Wilderness Foundation has collaborated with Four Paws Wine to support our ongoing work in cheetah conservation.
The two wines, Huja and Lillie, are named after two of the farms that make up the Selati Game Reserve. As with much of Southern Africa, these farmlands would have historically been populated by cheetah.
However, due to intense pressure on their natural habitat, cheetahs are no longer present in 90% of their historic range. This stark reduction is of huge concern. Cheetahs are now classified as “vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
In 2015 the Selati Wilderness Foundation began working with the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) to introduce cheetah permanently into the reserve ecosystem.
In 2023 Four Paws Wine sponsored a long-range tracking collar for the continued monitoring of the cheetah population on Selati Game Reserve. This highly advanced technology gives the research team invaluable, real time data on the movements and behaviour of the cheetah.
