During the 2024 breeding season, two eggs were laid but one was soon pushed to the edge of the nest and abandoned by the pair.
In the early hours of 25 June 2024, we witnessed some interesting behaviour with one of the eagles appearing to be pecking at the remaining egg. Over the next 24 hours or so, the eagles repeated this behaviour. Perplexed, we reached out to eagle experts who suggested that perhaps the adult birds knew the egg was either infertile or the developing chick had stopped showing signs of life, and proceeded to eat the egg.
